On Saturday, April 5th, Arcosanti PR & Development Coordinator Kate Bemesderfer and Arcosanti Planning Manager Travis Shappell spent the day running a table for Arcosanti at Modern Phoenix Modern Marketplace at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.

An annual event, the marketplace brings together architects, artists, designers, contractors, preservationists and others with a strong interest in beautiful and lasting work.

We made a variety of wonderful new connections, both professional and personal, with a number of people and organizations, including 180 degrees design + build, the City of Scottsdale Historic Register, the Arizona Preservation Foundation, Arizona Bronze Sculpture Restoration, Living Traditions Dance Troupe, and rameen ahmed designs (fabulous jewelry made by one of our alum).

Several design-oriented lectures took place throughout the day, but the main event was the world premiere of “Paolo Soleri: Citizen of the Planet” from filmmaker Geoffrey Madeja.  The audience included a number of Arcosanti alumni and past visitors, and quite a few people who have now been inspired to discover more about Cosanti, Arcosanti, arcology and Paolo Soleri as a result of the day’s activities.  We hope to be seeing them here soon!

A big thank you to Modern Phoenix organizer (and Arcosanti alum) Alison King!
