The 24th Annual Colly Concert featured Sonya Kumiko Lee. Sonya delighted her audience with a passionate and powerful performance of pieces by J.S. Bach, Beethoven, three modern pieces by Alberto Ginastera, the Dumka by Tchaikovsky and pieces by Chopin.
Sonya Lee began her musical studies at the age of three. Since winning her first competition at age seven, Sonya Lee has gone on to win top prizes in national and international piano competitions.
Sonya Lee has been heard in concert in such halls as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Lincol Center, Steinway Hall, the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen, Colorado, the Salles de Colonnes at the Chateau Fontainebleau and Bel Ebat Parc in France, Aoyama Hall in Osaka, Japan and the Honeni Temple in Kyoto, Japan among other. Miss Lee has been the featured soloist with festival orchestras throughtout Southern California and the with Juilliard Alumni Champer Orchestra at the Proshansky Auditorium at City Universities in NYC.
In 1998 Miss Lee was presented in her NY Recital Debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as the winner of Artist International’s Debut Series Award. The following year, Miss Lee recived the Outstanding Alumni Series Award in Piano and was presented in her Lincol Center Recital Debut at Alice Tull Hall. Last October, Miss Lee was presented in her Japan Recital debuts in Osaka and Kyoto, Japan. In the spring, Miss Lee was invited to give a lecture/recital for the acting students of NYU in conjunction with the Stella Adler Conservatory. In May 2005, Miss Lee returned to Japan to give a master class and to give a guest performance at the World Music Day Festival in Osaka.
Miss Lee holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from The Juilliard School where she was the studen of Oxana Yablonskaya and Emanues Ax. This was Miss Lee’s fifth appearance at the Colly Soleri Music Center.

Sonya-Kumico Lee is the daughter of alumnus Doug Lee, who worked with Paolo Soleri during many of the early years of the Cosanti Foundation. Doug is a member of the Cosanti Foundation Board of Directors.

Long time resident and superb grill chef Thomas Crowe prepared Flank steak for the concert lunch.

Once again chef Eleanor Gillis presented a delicious and beautifully prepared meal. The menu consisted of Roasted Red Pepper and Coconut Soup, Mixed Green Salad with Sweet Pecans, Blue Cheese, Pears and Arcosanti Peach Vinaigrette Dressing, Butternut Squash with Orange Cranberry Glaze, Broccoli Rabe with Roasted Garlic, Portobello Pizzas with Fresh Tomatoes and Goat Cheese, Flank Steak on Greens with Mango and Pepper Sauces and for dessert a Hazelnut Custard with rasped Chocolate Flakes.
