An International Conference TOWARD A SUSTAINABLE URBANIZATION was held in Suzhou, China on October 14 – 17. 2005. The aim of the conference is to rethink current forms of urbanization and to envision and promote new concepts of urbanization in China and the West. Paolo Soleri, visionary architect and creator of the concept of ARCHITECTURAL ECOLOGY or ARCOLOGY, delivers the keynote address. ?

Following the visit to Rome, with only a 2-day stop at Arcosanti, Paolo Soleri and Tomiaki Tamura set off to China. Paolo’s participation in this conference was arranged by John Cobb of Claremont School of Theology. Paolo Soleri and long-time friend and associate John Cobb on a bus to the conference center.

Alumnus Francis Frick currently resides in Hong Kong and joins Paolo and Tomiaki at a group session during the conference in Suzhou. Paolo presents SOLARE, A LINEAR CITY at this event and other conferences during this 2-week visit to China. Paolo conceived the SOLARE design as a proposal for a rational approach to the tremendous growth of the building industry in China.
