Soleri Archives volunteer Chihiro Saito brought photos of a fantastic fieldtrip into the north of Arizona. She had researched a location that was only discovered in 2003, a beautiful sandstone formation called ‘The Wave’. It is located about six hours drive north from Arcosanti at the Arizona/Utah border.
The area is under protection from the Bureau of Land Management and only a limited number of permits are given out. You have to apply for a day-use permit at the BLM site at Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument Visitor Center in Kanab, Utah and access is decided by lottery, only ten permits per day. You can find more information on
Chihiro, Young Soo Kim and Matteo DiMichele were very lucky to score a permit on the second day.
