For a decade now, the Different Skies Festival has been one of the highlights of the Arcosanti summer concert season.
This unique event features the talents of electronic and experimental musicians from around the world composing never-before-heard music specifically for the Arcosanti audience. Musicians arrive one week before the concert and write and rehearse the entire show in the days leading up to the concert on Saturday.
For this, the tenth anniversary of Different Skies, founder Mike Metlay returns after absenting himself from Different Skies 2011 to helm the festival once more, and will head up an 8-man ensemble of well-loved Different Skies veterans.
For this year’s band, Mike has called upon local music luminaries John Krikawa of Parity Flux (Tucson) and Russell Foster of Una Voce (Phoenix), as well as Different Skies 2011 bandleader Allen Goodman of Desert Mystic (recently relocated to Denver from Phoenix), world-famous recording artists Giles Reaves (Salt Lake City), Tim Walters (San Francisco), Dave Fulton (Portland), and Otso Pakarinen of Ozone Player (Helsinki, Finland).[practice evening on Tuesday, October 9. 2012, photo by Donald Mahoney; text by Cosanti Foundation Public Relations]
The result will be an amazing collection of electronic music ranging from the ethereal and meditative to the fiercely energetic, all delivered with the humor and joy that makes Different Skies stand out among the world’s experimental music events.
