Arcosanti has lost a dear friend this week. Jayne Casselman passed away peacefully at her Scottsdale home surrounded by family on Wednesday FEB 3, after a battle with ALS, just two months after her 60th birthday.
Jayne, a marvelous opera singer, is remembered here for her exuberant personality and her superb artistry. And because she was the mother of Arcosanti foundryman and musician Jonas Fister.
Jayne first came to Arcosanti to perform as a soprano at Italian Night 4 years ago, singing powerfully in the midst of a great thunderstorm that first performance. She went on to be a favorite of ours, producing and performing in several subsequent Arcosanti Events, collaborating with pianist Dr. Lynne Haeseler to make Opera, Dance, and Commedia delArte, and a series of voice master classes here.[text by Jeff Stein]
Prior to her work in Arizona, over her 30 year career, Jayne appeared in leading roles in more than 60 operas on stages throughout Europe, including portraying Brunnhilde in Wagner’s entire Ring cycle.
A memorial service will be held in Prescott at the Granite Peak Unitarian Universalist Church, 882 Sunset AV, on Tuesday FEB 9, at 1:30PM.
