The Billy Mitchell Group has appeared at many international festivals including the Monterey Jazz Festival, Playboy Jazz Festival, Heineken World Music Festival, International Jazz Festival, Pori Jazz Festival, Sedona Jazz on the Rocks, and countless club appearances. His solo career has included appearances in film, most notably Clint Eastwood’s “Bird.” In 1999 America West Airlines awarded Mitchell the Jazz For The Next Generation Award for his continued work with young musicians. His work as a clinician has centered on his book, “The Gigging Musician” (Backbeat Books) based on interviews and his articles as a writer for Gig Magazine. Born in Tarrytown and raised in Buffalo, New York, Billy Mitchell tinkered with the piano as a child but did not get serious about music until he entered Morehouse College. While pursuing his social science degree, he joined the school jazz band and was soon playing gigs in and around Atlanta. In 1970 Mitchell moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career and was soon backing up such artists as Gloria Lynn, Ester Phillips, Randy Crawford,The Platters and Linda Hopkins, to name a few.
Yuko Mabuchi started playing piano at age of 4, in her hometown of Fukui, Japan. After high school she studied at AN Music School in Kyoto under Kunihiro Kameda. After graduating from the conservatory, she began performing as a soloist, and as a member of a local jazz trio in Japan. In 2010, Yuko arrived in Los Angeles to study at the Music Performance Academy (MPA) in Alhambra, CA. She has performed at various venues in the LA area including the Catalina Jazz Bar, Downtown Biltmore Hotel, Pasadena Levitt Pavilion Summer Concert Series, the Crowne Plaza LAX, and Red White & Bluz in Pasadena. Her first CD, “Waves,” (Vista Records) was a collection of original compositions. After returning to Japan in 2013, Yuko has busied herself as a Jazz artist, featured with her trio at the Jazz Spot J Shinjuku in Tokyo, the Fukui Jazz Festival ’14 & ’15, Osaka/Neyagawa Jazz Convention ’14, and appears as a regular soloist at Keio Plaza, Tokyo. Her new CD, “My Life,” (Vista Records) are original compositions featuring Latin Jazz great, flutist Justo Almario and Smooth Jazz saxophonist Andre Delano. “My Life” can be purchased on CDBaby.com.
